Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been handed a one-year suspension for his failed drugs test ahead of a proposed July 7 fight with Daniel Cormier.

The rivals were expected to headline the historic card, ufc 200, but 48 hours prior to the fight news came out that Jones had failed a pre-fight random drug test.

The ruling, handed down by USADA, means Jones will not be eligible to compete again until July 7 2017.

Jones admitted to taking what he believed to be a legal substance, Cialis, which is used to help males with sexual performance.

Jones was unaware that the pill was contaminated with estrogen blockers clomiphene and letrozole.

The suspension is another setback for the former UFC champion, who has previously had dangerous driving and marijuana possession convictions.

Cormier is scheduled to defend the UFC light heavyweight title in December against Anthony Johnson.
