Kiwi big man Steven Adams has revealed his reasons for staying in Oklahoma as well as his first purchase since signing a contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

While the exact value of the contract is yet to be confirmed, it's understood to be at an approximate annual rate of NZ$35 million over a four-year period, which would see Adams comfortably surpass Team Oracle boss Sir Russell Coutts at the summit of New Zealand's sporting rich list.

The 23-year-old has become a cornerstone of his team after a breakout campaign in 2015, which was highlighted by some outstanding performances during a deep playoff run.

Speaking after practice on Wednesday morning (NZT), Adams likened Oklahoma to New Zealand.

"I just like it here so much," Adams said when pressed on why he re-signed with the Thunder.

"It reminds me of New Zealand, this place. There are good people here and it's a really good organisation.

"Obviously it's good that [Russell Westbrook] felt comfortable to sign again, it's kudos to the culture here and the environment that we have".

Adams was also asked about the first purchase he made after signing the contract - and it was a very frank answer from the Kiwi big man.

"It was yesterday, it was a phone because I dropped my phone in the cold tub and it didn't work for the last three days.

"And stuff was going on. So my agent was trying to contact me and stuff and I was like I can't I'm sorry, I just don't have a phone. So that was my purchase yesterday. I got a nice phone."

Oklahoma City Thunder will look to continue their perfect start to the season against the Clippers in Los Angeles on Thursday (NZT) before a blockbuster replay of the conference finals against the Golden State Warriors on Friday (NZT).
