Video highlights: Liverpool rout Watford, Arsenal draw with Tottenham

Liverpool stormed to the top of the English Premier League table for the first time since May 2014 after they hammered Watford 6-1 on Monday (NZT).

Sadio Mane scored twice and Philippe Coutinho, Emre Can, Roberto Firmino and Giorginio Wijnaldum got the others as Liverpool moved one point above Chelsea.

Coutinho had already hit the woodwork before Mane got things rolling with the opener and Coutinho and Can made it 3-0 at halftime.

Roberto Firmino added a fourth in the second half before Mane got his second and though Daryl Janmaat grabbed a consolation, Wijnaldum scored the sixth to send them top.

Earlier, Arsenal missed the chance to go top when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham at the Emirates on Sunday.

An own goal from Kevin Wimmer just before half-time put Arsenal in front but Spurs equalized through a Harry Kane penalty in the second half to remain unbeaten in the league after Moussa Dembele was fouled.

The results leave Arsenal fourth, two points behind Liverpool, one behind Chelsea and trailing Manchester City on goal difference.

"It is disappointing to drop two points at home," manager Arsene Wenger said.

"We created plenty of chances in dangerous situations.

"In the second half we looked more laboured, there were plenty of aspects I did not like, the desire was there but we were too nervous.

"Spurs go home happy, we go home and are not happy. We wanted to win the game, but overall it is not mathematically a disaster."

Arsenal dominated the match in the first half and got their reward three minutes before the break when Mesut Ozil's teasing free kick was headed into his own net by Wimmer.

Tottenham, with Kane back in the side after more than a month out through injury, came into the match after the break and had chances to win it.

Christian Eriksen hit the post with a free kick late on while Olivier Giroud headed straight at Hugo Lloris in the dying moments.

Kane said he was delighted to be back in the team and scoring.

"It's been a long time, it feels great to be out there with the team, a great opportunity to get back scoring goals," he said.

"I played 75 minutes. I have trained all week, I am ready to step up for England, I am feeling good, the ankle is fine.

"This is a tough place to come and we got a draw."

Hull remain in the bottom three but much closer to escaping the relegation zone after coming from behind for a 2-1 win over Southampton, with Michael Dawson scoring the winner.

Manchester United were due to play Swansea later on Sunday while champions Leicester were hosting West Brom.
