We don't often see Steve Hansen get fired up, but after the All Blacks' 21-9 win over Ireland, Hansen took offence at an Irish rugby reporter who tried to allude that the All Blacks are a "dirty side".
Reporter Claire McNamara questioned Hansen about the All Black high penalty count, which went in Ireland's favour 14-4.
Hansen had little to say: "You always want the ref to be consistent, so let's leave it at that."
But McNamara dug deeper, asking more in depth questions about the dangerous tackles, including Malakai Fekitoa's, which led to a yellow card.
"I don't think so; this is a moving game," said Hansen. "The first one, he got penalised and it was a head clash; there was no arms involved in it at all.
"The one on the far side was obviously a little high and was across the shoulder, so I don't think there was any malice in it," Hansen continued.
"Rugby is a shifting game. When you've got ball carriers that move as well as the Irish do, they're going to change direction. So people are going to sometimes make mistakes, and sometimes people fall into tackles too."
McNamara continued to dig, and eventually dug too deep when she asked: "In terms of the tackling though, and the edge to that?"
That was the tipping point for Hansen, who let it rip.
"No, I'm not sure where you're going with this. Do you want me to sell you that we're a dirty side or something? Is that what you're saying, or...?"
A shaken McNamara replied, saying "no", and Hansen added: "Well, do you want to talk about something else now?"
