Warriors coach Stephen Kearney relishing new role

The Warriors pre-season may be less than a month old but Coach Stephen Kearney is wasting no time stamping his mark on the team.

Kearney's using the experience gleaned from his time under super coaches Craig Bellamy and Wayne Bennett.

"I've been pretty fortunate to be at some clubs that I think have pretty good cultures and know what winning looks like," said Kearney.

"For me it's about having a certain standard and behaviours that go with that and making sure we're all striving to achieve that standard everytime and that's where you get consistency."

Kearney's demanding approach has been welcomed by captain Ryan Hoffman.

"There have been a few trends with the Warriors in the past couple of years, and they're not good trends so that's something we need to break."

It seems hard work is one of the ways those trends are being broken according to prop Jacob Lillyman.

"He's pretty big on the discipline side and the punishments around those, just a lot of accountability there and out on the field as well," said the former Queensland front-rower.

"It's just about putting your best effort in each training session. He's putting his own spin on things and it's going well".

It hasn't all been change though, with former Head coach Andrew McFadden now an assistant, but Kearney's adamant there's no clash of egos.

"I'm happy with it, he's happy with it. It's perfect".
