Andy Murray has won British Sports Personality of the Year for the second time in a row.

The tennis world No. 1 was hot favourite for the award, with triathlete Alistair Brownlee the runner-up. Third place went to equestrian star Nick Skelton. Murray is also the first athlete to win it three times.

Team of the Year was English Premier League champions Leicester City, with Claudio Ranieri Coach of the Year. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to American swimmer Michael Phelps, while the overseas gong was won by Simone Biles.

Murray said: “I’d like to thank the team who support me, all the fans, my mum who is in the audience, and my dad who just got married. I’d like to thank my wife for all her support, and my daughter, not that she’ll know what this means [Sophia Olivia was born in June]. I’d like to thank my wife, even though she told me an hour ago she had voted for Nick Skelton.”
