Blackcaps player ratings - First ODI against Bangladesh

The opening match of the one-day-international series against Bangladesh was a good return to form for the Blackcaps, with the absence of any real speedsters allowing the home side to feast.

Take a look at how they rated:

Martin Guptill – 5

Couldn't continue his great form from the Australian series but with his technique in the one-day game, you feel he's just around the corner from another big score. Was dismissed by a well-executed slower ball.

Tom Latham – 9

Knows the slightly tacky Hagley Oval pitch like the back of his hand and it showed. Latham was the glue that held the innings together. It's refreshing to see him bring his domestic form into the international game but the slower paced Bangladesh bowling attack suited his game.

Kane Williamson - 6

Looked better and got a start but still plays like he has a bit too much weight on his shoulders. Was surprised by a ball that came on a bit but looked comfortable beforehand.

Neil Broom - 6

Was another batsman to get a start and would have loved to register a half century on his return to the side. Broom was guilty of falling into the Tigers' trap of being pushed back by the slow bowlers but will get another chance to impress.

Jimmy Neesham - 7

Got yet another start but failed to convert. Was immense with the ball, one of the few NZ bowlers to pitch the ball up.

Colin Munro - 8

Another member of the team to enjoy the mild pace of the visitors, Munro was able to dictate to the bowlers and open the shoulders. He's still yet to show he has another gear other than foot flat on the pedal but when the runs are flowing and he's batting with an established partner, he's good to have in the middle.

Luke Ronchi - 5

A tricky time at the crease for Ronchi, not enough time to get him set but too much time to go from the first ball. Bowled clean in his first over and didn't really feature otherwise.

Mitchell Santner - 6

Finished the innings off with a couple of well taken boundaries and tied up one end well. Perhaps bowled a little short, but would have been careful to not get too full against a Bangladesh team well versed in batting against spin.

Trent Boult - 5

Bowled far too short and failed to pick up a wicket. The bouncy nature of the pitch didn't help but he wasn't as expensive as his opening partner.

Tim Southee - 4

Like Boult, bowled far too short and whether it was part of a plan or not, his bouncers sat up to be pulled by the Bangladeshi batsmen.

Lockie Ferguson – 6

Toiled hard and was short but was lucky enough to pick up three wickets. Ferguson will be happy with the return and while it's not the quality of the Australian side, it's probably a better series to ease him in to international cricket.
