Cody Garbrandt's record doesn't impress Dominick Cruz ahead of UFC 207 clash

The high level of opponent that Dominick Cruz has faced in his 23-fight career will prove the difference in his bout with Cody Garbrandt, according to the UFC bantamweight champion.

Cruz, who defends his title against the 25-year-old American at UFC 207 on Saturday, believes his wins over the likes of Urijah Faber, Joseph Benavidez and the man regarded as the best mma fighter in the world, Demetrious Johnson, distance himself from his young, brash challenger.

"He hasn't dealt with what I have dealt with," Cruz told Newshub.

Garbrandt is undefeated as a professional with a 10 win, 0 loss record with nine coming by knockout, however Cruz, 22-1, isn't impressed.

"Look at our records; I have more wins than he has fights, you can't take those fights from me, that's experience.

"He can't take what I learned in those fights, that I've seen those styles, I've adjusted, that I've made reads on those styles and I have added that to my arsenal.

"He has not seen these things, he will see something brand new when he faces me in there, regardless of what he says, regardless of his knockouts."

The champion is well known for having a unique fighting style that UFC analyst Joe Rogan has described as  'crab like' , he is tough to hit and notorious for pin point striking precision.

Cruz said he is impossible to prepare for.

"I am something different to what he has seen; it all comes down to why you would want to fight like everybody else."

During the satellite video media session, which originally featured both the champion and the challenger, the latter stormed off set as things between the two got personal.

Cruz believes that was a power play by Garbrandt to live up to his bad boy persona.

"This guy boasts and brags about what a savage he is, about what an alpha he is and this is how he portrays that in his mind.

"So actually this is giving him power.

"Ignorance is bliss for Cody, he doesn't know what this is really perceived as."

The 31-year-old champion, who hasn't lost in almost 10 years, is not taking his foe lightly despite the trash talk.

In fact he believes a win over Garbrandt will put some sugar on his already exceptional career.

"Cody Grabrandt can fight, and he will add to what I am today, and I will also give him credit after the fight, after I beat him.

"I'm going to assume that I'm going to see the best Cody Garbrandt on that night, I'm going to see a guy who is in the best shape of his life and I know he is because he is extra angry at me."

The two bantamweights co-headline UFC 207 with women's bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes and the returning Ronda Rousey.
