Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki made sure it wasn't a completely forgettable day three for ASB Classic Tournament Organisers by sealing her spot in the quarter finals with a 6-3 6-3 win over American Varvara Lepchenko.
Considering the events earlier in the day that saw top seeds Venus and Serena Williams bow out of the tournament, Wozniacki navigated her match rather uneventfully, being every bit as efficient on serve as she's known to be.
With the Williams sisters suddenly absent from the field, Wozniacki, who fell short to Venus Williams in the 2015 final, would have to not only be in poll position to win the tournament but to go deep in the upcoming Australian Open.
And the 26-year-old showed why, never letting Lepchenko into the match, blunting anything that was thrown at her and coolly finishing when required.
Wozniacki will now play Germany's Julia Goerges who is on an impressive tournament streak, first beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the first round before dispatching Brit Naomi Broady in the second, both in straight sets.
