A consortium of Kiwi businessmen including former All Blacks stars Dan Carter and Ali Williams are set to step in to save struggling English club side London Welsh, according to reports out of the UK.
The London Welsh team has struggled for some time with the Championship club reportedly running up debts of over NZ$3.5 million in chasing a spot in the top tier Aviva Premiership.
The club was also liquidated late last year with players told to seek other employment three weeks before Christmas.
Former All Black Piri Weepu made 12 appearances for the club in between 2014 and 2015.
Sources suggest that both former All Blacks want to get involved in a business that they can contribute some value to and will likely be used to attract players to the club.
When contacted, the group that represent both Carter and Williams were yet to respond for comment.
Carter and Williams currently play together for Racing 92 in France's Top 14 competition but have history in undertaking ventures off the rugby field together.
Along with former All Black captain Richie McCaw, all three were part-shareholders in a bottled water company Water for Everyone, while Carter's also dipped his toe in the business waters with the Gas clothing line.
