Video: Canterbury golfer Momoka Kobori handed opportunity of a lifetime

Teenage golf prodigy Momoka Kobori is leaving for Florida in the United States after being awarded a Lydia Ko scholarship.

The promising Canterbury golfing prospect has won the Lydia Ko Scholarship, which could help her follow in the footsteps of the best female golfer in the world.

When she heard she was heading off to Florida, she was in shock.

"To say I was excited was an understatement," said Kobori. "I didn't think I would win the scholarship."

She will find out first-hand what makes the golfing superstar tick, spending time on and off the course with the world no 3.

After her time in Florida, the 17-year-old will continue her studies in sports medicine at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.

And post-graduation a pro career beckons, ideally joining Ko on the LPGA tour.

"It's a tough competition, it's not easy, but if I put everything into it I know I can get there one day."
