Video: Dame Valerie Adams set for new era in 2017

Dame Valerie Adams has been very successful under the wing of Coach JP Egger, but things will be different in 2017.

Adams has revealed to Newshub that Egger has retired, and she won't be returning to her training base in Switzerland.

Egger and Adams shared huge success in the six years they were together, winning Olympic gold and silver, numerous Diamond League titles and two world championships, during one of which she threw her personal best of 21.24 in 2011.

"I guess at the young age of 74 it was going to come to an end - he's given me an awesome coach for six years," said Adams.

Adams' new team includes Athletics New Zealand's High Performance manager Scott Goodman, whom she turned to in Rio when Egger was unable to travel.

"Scott has been helping me with my technical work at the moment," said Adams.

"I see Scott about two to three times a weekend, then the rest of the time I'm here in the gym with my strength and conditioning coach Angus Ross.

"But I am still searching overseas a little bit for my technical coach, but for now the set-up works for me right now."

Adams won't be returning to Switzerland, where Egger and Adams spent their time training, and she admits she is looking forward to spending more time at home.

"I'm at the age now where I would like to be based in New Zealand a little bit longer you know, I guess I have to be less selfish and think about life outside of track and field," said Adams.

Adams is yet to decide when she will return to competing as she won't be competing at this year's IAAF World Championships in London.

But the 32-year-old has every intention of defending her Commonwealth Games title on the Gold Coast in April 2018.

"My biggest focus right now for training is Commonwealth Games in 2018," said Adams.

"I have lost two key people since the Rio Olympics, so I need to see if the new combination works and sort out and see if whoever's on the bus is working."

People may get on or off over the next year, but one thing's for sure - the Adams team bus will keep moving forward.
