Video: Jossi Wells hoping to defend slopestyle crown at X Games in Aspen

New Zealand's freeskiing poster boy Jossi Wells will make his attempt at back to back X Games titles in the US on Sunday morning (NZ time).

The reigning champion will line up in the "slopestyle final", after having three days of practice in the resort town of Aspen, Colorado.

The 26-year-old has competed at the X Games in Colorado a number of times, but he has never had the title of "defending champion" before.

Because Wells finished in the top three last year, he automatically qualified for this year's 12-man final.

He won his first X Games gold in slopestyle last year, an amazing comeback from a raft of injuries including a broken neck.

"Last year was really special," said Wells.

"Mum was there for the first time, the whole family was there and to win gold was a really special day."

Wells is hoping for another great result which could see him qualify for next year's Winter Olympics in South Korea
