Blackcaps determined to leave heavy loss behind

A 159-run loss is something the Blackcaps are keen to consign to the past.

"We've got to move on pretty quickly. [We] can't judge it on one game but I think batters will get what they want out of training tomorrow on a different surface, so it's going to be a different challenge," says Blackcaps all-rounder Mitchell Santner.

That different surface will be the spin-friendly Seddon Park, with Jeetan Patel added to the squad to boost the spin options.

"I think [Jeetan] gives us another option with the ball spinning away from the left handers so that's good," Santner says.

It spun enough in the first game of the series in Hamilton that Santner opened the bowling, and all three spinners could line up on Wednesday.

"It's not my decision thankfully, it's the selectors', so hopefully we do play three spinners. [It would] be pretty cool to play three spinners but it's surface dependent."

Despite Saturday's heavy defeat, the Blackcaps are happy with the performance of their bowling unit against the stacked Proteas top order.

"They have four of the top 10 batsmen in the world. If you get Amla early, du Plessis might come have a whack [and] if we can keep eking out wickets throughout the innings it obviously puts us in good stead to chase a good score," Santer says.
