The fallout from a drink-driving arrest continues for former All Black Dan Carter.
The two-time world cup winner has been dumped by sponsor Land Rover after he was caught behind the wheel at almost twice the legal alcohol limit near Paris' iconic Champs-Élysées on Wednesday night (local time).
"Over the last few days my management and I have had to front up to my sponsors," Carter wrote on Facebook.
"Not surprisingly, Land Rover, who for good reason have zero tolerance towards drink driving, have ended their relationship with me. I understand this completely and am disappointed I put them in this position."
Playing for French Top 14 club Racing 92, the 34-year-old arrived back in New Zealand from his base in Paris on a pre-booked break last week.
"Just got back to NZ for what was supposed to be a fun, pre-planned holiday," Carter said in an Instagram post.
"Seeing the family again puts a fresh perspective on just how big a mistake I made."
If convicted, Carter faces a fine of a fine of up to €4500 (NZ$6647), and could also potentially lose his licence.
In the midst of his second season for Racing 92, Carter shifted to France following the 2015 World Cup where he played a starring role, ending his record-breaking career at 112 Tests.
