Manchester City have overcome a dogged Swansea outfit to climb into the top four with a 2-1 win in injury time on Monday (NZ time).
City were forced to dig deep against the relegation-threatened Swans despite completely dominating the first half.
New signing Gabriel Jesus' 11th-minute opener was all the hosts had to show for a superb performance early on and they were made to pay for their profligacy when Gylfi Sigurdsson equalised nine minutes from time.
They roused themselves in the latter stages and snatched victory in injury time when Jesus tapped in after Lukasz Fabianski had saved his initial header.
Joining the club from Palmeiras for an estimated NZ$46 million, Jesus showed that there may indeed be life after main man Sergio Aguero should the Argentine choose to leave the Etihad.
Guardiola admitted he has been surprised by how quickly Jesus has adapted to life in England.
"For the last two to three years he never had a break, he played a lot of games in Brazil. I said, 'Take your time, come back when you are ready'," Guardiola said.
"But he is 19 years old, Brazilian, physically strong, he needs few training sessions to be ready. He told me, 'I am never tired, I am always fit, I recover quick'. His father and mother gave him this talent.
"Now we have to protect him but everybody is a bit surprised by his level."
