Israel Dagg commits to New Zealand Rugby through to 2019

Israel Dagg has committed to New Zealand Rugby for another two years after signing a contract that will take him through to the end of the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

With Dagg coming off contract at the end of this year, his future has been up in the air recently with the 28-year-old reportedly considering big-money offers from European clubs.

Dagg confirmed via his social media accounts Monday morning that he'd be staying in New Zealand and continue playing for the Crusaders and the Hawkes Bay in the Mitre 10 Cup.

"There's no doubt that there were some attractive offers to consider," Dagg said.

"But at the end of the day I love my life here in New Zealand with my family, friends and team mates and I'm not ready to give that up. I still feel blessed every time I pull on the jersey for the All Blacks, Crusaders or Magpies so I consider it an honour to be able to keep working hard to earn that right for the next three years."

Making his debut for New Zealand against Ireland in New Plymouth back in 2010, Dagg was a key part of the All Blacks' winning 2011 Rugby World Cup campaign.

Locking down the position at the back, Dagg suffered a couple of niggling injuries in 2013 which opened the door for Ben Smith who took the opportunity with both hands, supplanting Dagg as the first-choice fullback.

This led to him being left out of the squad for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Last year was a year of resurgence for Dagg who was selected for the Welsh Test series on the back of strong Super Rugby form and, with the injury to Nehe Milner-Skudder, has cemented himself back in the All Blacks squad.

Dagg was identified alongside Smith and Aaron Cruden as the three key players that NZR would struggle to retain however, Smith re-signing last week means that Cruden is the only player out of the three to be leaving.
