The Wellington Phoenix have made a couple of big selection calls ahead of Saturday's crucial match against Brisbane Roar.
They've axed first team regulars Roly Bonevacia and Tom Doyle from the playing squad. Ryan Lowry also drops out, although that is less surprising given the return of skipper Andrew Durante from suspension.
Yesterday, Durante called for more unity from the playing squad, after a run of three straight loss with an aggregate score of 11-3 had seen the club sit well adrift of a playoff spot.
Durante said the team had a few meetings early in the week, where some honest truths were told.
"That unity is what will get us out. If we start picking fights and people don't want to admit mistakes, that won't be accepted," Durante said yesterday.
Of the two high profile omissions, Doyle comes as the biggest shock. The left back is a critical member of the team's defensive setup.
Bonevacia, meanwhile, is off contract at the end of the season, and has been for some time eyeing up a move away from Wellington.
