Auckland-based MMA fighter Ev Ting has secured himself a shot at a world title in Asia's ONE Championship fighting promotion.
Ting will square off with current champion Eduard Folayang for the world lightweight title at the "ONE Championship 54: Kings of Destiny" event on April 21st in Manila, Philippines.
The 27-year-old fights and trains out of the Auckland MMA gym and is a veteran of the New Zealand Mixed Martial Arts scene, sporting a professional record of 13-3-0, including four finishes apiece by submission and knock-out.
He's currently on a four-fight win streak dating back to October 2015, his most recent victory coming against former UFC fighter Kamal Shalorus last month which propelled him into title contention.
Defending his belt for the first time in his native Philippines, 33-year-old Folayang will prove a significant challenge for the Malaysian-born Kiwi, and while he's weary of the enormity of the task ahead of him, he's certainly far from daunted by it.
"I have worked tirelessly to be where I am now. It has finally paid off because I will get an opportunity to vie for a world title," said an excited Ting.
"It's every mixed martial artist's dream to become a champion. This is my chance to fulfill that dream."
