Lydia Ko misses cut in California –world number one spot in jeopardy

New Zealand golfer Lydia Ko is in unfamiliar territory tonight after missing the cut for just the second time in her professional career - a result which could cost her the world number one ranking within the coming weeks.

A putt for par on the final hole of the second round at the Kia Classic in California turned out to be one of the most definitive of her career.

The miss meant Ko failed to make the cut by a single shot and in the process has put a 74-week reign as the world top women golfer in serious jeopardy.

Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn is now a serious threat to claim number one spot after shooting five-under to sit 18th overall.

The world number 2 will go as close as .20 of a point to Ko if she can win the tournament.
