After competing in the women's para long jump on day one, Anna Grimaldi was back at it on Saturday, finishing fifth in the women's open final in Hamilton.
The 20-year-old's best jump was 5.8 metres, which was close to her personal best, but it was well behind the winning effort of 6.4 metres set by Canterbury's Kelsey Berryman.
But competing in the open event wasn't about the numbers for Grimaldi; it was about testing herself in the open event.
"The competition over in Rio was pretty steep, and I know this year it's going to be really hard going into world champs in London," said Grimaldi.
"It's nice to be able to jump against such good competition here in our own country."
The Paralympic gold medallist is using this event to prepare for July's Para World Track and Field Championships in London.
Canterbury's Angie Petty and Brad Mathas won their sixth consecutive New Zealand 800m titles in the women's and men's race, respectively.
Sunday will be the final day of the National Championships, with shot put, pole vault and javelin headlining the day in Hamilton.
