Video: Tyron Woodley retains welterweight title at UFC 209, Mark Hunt knocked out

Tyron Woodley has retained his UFC welterweight championship with a decision victory over Stephen Thompson at UFC 209 in Las Vegas.

The 34-year-old champion got the nod on the judges' scorecards winning a majority decision and putting an end to the title hopes of the former world karate champion.

The two met in November 2016 with the bout resulting in a draw and the rematch could very well have gone the same way with one of the judge's handing in a tied scorecard.

The fight didn't impress the 20,000 string crowd as both champion and challenger looked to counter-punch and avoid the power-strikes of their opponent.

Thompson was more accurate and effective but Woodley landed the heavier shots and almost finished the fight in the fifth and final round with a barrage of heavy punches but 'Wonderboy' survived.

That flurry from the champion was the key moment of the fight and the onslaught earned Woodley his championship defence.

Earlier Mark Hunt's UFC return didn't quite go to plan after a knockout loss against Dutch kickboxing expert Alistair Overeem.

The New Zealander was fighting for the first time since a controversial no-result against former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in July, after the American tested positive for banned substances post-fight.

Hunt had his moments, including a vicious elbow strike that rocked the Dutchman in the second round, but he couldn't follow up and Overeem survived.

The finish came two minutes into the final round, Overeem landing a brutal knee in the clinch which sent the Kiwi to the canvas.

The 42-year-old was out cold before he hit the deck and the referee called a stop to the bout, condemning Hunt to a fifth UFC loss.
