Coach Stephen Kearney defiant as Warriors await Kieran Foran injury update

Warriors coach Stephen Kearney wasn't offering any excuses for his side's comprehensive loss to the St George Dragons on Sunday, especially not the late scratching of star recruit Kieran Foran.

The former Kiwis half was set to make his debut for the club a week later than intended after a shoulder injury delayed his initial return date, only to suffer a hamstring strain during warm-ups to put an end to his comeback hopes.

Although he admitted the last minute change had made for some challenging adjustments, Kearney was adamant it was ultimately unforced errors and lack of execution which saw them crash to their third consecutive loss.

"We dropped far too many for my liking, and to be competitive in this competition you just can't do that.

"After 20 minutes it was 20-2, and for the last 60 minutes we got ahead 12-6, so we had the opportunity to claw ourselves back into the game. We just didn’t execute effectively enough."

Foran cut a forlorn figure on the sidelines, but Kearney insists he's being philosophical about the latest in a series of setbacks.

"He was disappointed. There was a fair bit of build up for him, but he'll get over it.

"He's worked through a pretty hard last 12 months of his life - he'll come back better and stronger for it, it's just a bit of a bugger for him."

The 26-year-old will remain in Australia where he'll spend some time with his Sydney-based family, an allowance which was drawn into his contract, while the Warriors will sweat on the outcome of physiotherapy testing before confirming his status for the clash with the Gold Coast Titans this weekend.

"He had some pretty good strength in it last night," noted Kearney of his hamstring.

"I don’t think he needed a scan on it."

Despite the discouraging start to the NRL season after an off-season of renewed hope, Kearney remained resolute regarding the game plan and approach he'd implemented for the squad.

"There were a few circumstance that threw things about, but it's not going to deter me in what I believe is going to work for the group.

"We're going to stay on that course and make sure we keep sticking to the process which I know works for us, so nothing's going to change in that sense.

"No one said the ride was going to be easy."
