Sergio Garcia has gone one round closer to his first ever major win with a strong three under round of 69 on day two to be co-leader at the Masters.
The blustery conditions continued as unlikely day one leader Charlie Hoffman looked to continue the momentum from a stunning round of 65.
But it was always going to take some topping as big names Garcia, Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth went hunting low numbers.
While some of golf's household names will have to wait until 'moving day' to make their way up the leaderboard, Garcia won't after the Spaniard, along with American Rickie Fowler and Belgian gun Thomas Pieters all levelled with Hoffman on four under.
Fowler navigated the tricky, undulating greens and awkward approaches the most efficient, hitting a round of the day 67 as the longer players fared better in the trying conditions.
The surprise of the second day came from American veteran Fred Couples who steadied after a round of 73 on day one with a well-made two under par 70 to be on the prowl tied for sixth with Rio Gold medallist Justin Rose.
