Artemis suffers damage in America's Cup training accident in Bermuda

America's Cup challengers Artemis have suffered damage in a training incident in Bermuda.

Damage to the boat has been described as catastrophic, the boat involved was a testing boat not their America's Cup Class catamaran dubbed 'Magic Blue' that was launched in late February.

The team may have been testing a wingsail for the new AC50, and it's unknown if it sustained any damage.

In a statement the Swedish syndicate said "During a practice session this afternoon Artemis Racing’s development boat [T2] sustained beam damage whilst training.

There were no injuries in the incident, and the yacht is back at the base.

The team looks forward to getting out on its ACC boat for the second week of practice racing, starting on Thursday."

Before the last regatta in San Francisco the syndicate suffered a fatal crash that cost the life of British sailor Andrew Simpson.
