Highlights: Real Madrid take edge of Bayern Munich while Leicester City stumble against Atletico Madrid

Antoine Griezmann converted a first-half penalty to give Atletico Madrid a 1-0 win over Leicester in their first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, keeping the Spanish club on track to make it to the final for a second straight season.

Atletico's crosstown rivals Real Madrid scored a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. Cristiano Ronaldo's double puts the defending champions in the box seat on the away-goal rule.

Griezmann coolly scored from the spot in the 28th minute on Wednesday by sending goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way with a firm strike into the left corner.

The penalty came after Griezmann was clipped by Leicester defender Marc Albrighton after making a long run down the left flank. Leicester players claimed Griezmann was still outside the area when he was fouled.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo may be on course for his worst domestic goal haul since 2010 but with two strikes in the 2-1 Champions League quarter-final first leg win at Bayern Munich, he became the first player to score 100 goals in European competition.

"Cristiano was unhappy because he couldn't score a third, that's how ambitious he is," Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane told reporters.

Ronaldo has now scored 97 goals in the Champions League, two in the UEFA Super Cup and one in ECL qualifying.

Ronaldo's second-half goals in Munich ensured Madrid came from behind - after Arturo Vidal's 25th-minute header - to put the defending champions on course to reach the semi-finals for a seventh successive year.

"It's a big result, it isn't easy to come here and win," Zidane said.

"We would have preferred to have scored another goal," Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane told French TV.

"Their goalkeeper saved lots of chances; a lot."

Bayern, who were without top-scorer Robert Lewandowski after he failed to recover from a knock to his right shoulder, should have been 2-0 up at the break but Vidal sent his penalty well over the crossbar after Dani Carvajal was adjudged to have blocked a Frank Ribery effort with his arm.

"It happens in football. It's not the first time and it won't be the last," Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti said of the missed penalty.

"We're still alive, we're not dead."

Bayern were dealt another blow with a half-hour to play when Javi Martinez was sent off for a second yellow card within three minutes for fouls on Ronaldo.

"The sending off was the turning point," Bayern captain Philipp Lahm said.

"The red card was the neck breaker."
