Highlights: Russell Westbrook breaks NBA triple-double record, hits game-winning buzzer beater

Thunder dynamo Russell Westbrook has carved himself out a unique slice of NBA history in registering his 42nd triple-double of the NBA season, breaking a 55-year-old record.

Westbrook found Semaj Christon open for a corner three with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to bring up his 10th assist of the contest, moving past Oscar Robertson’s mark of 41 set back during the 1961-62 season.

And the point guard extraordinaire wasn’t done there, rescuing his side with some late game heroics by way of a buzzer-beater three-pointer assist from 40-feet deep, securing the Thunder a 106-105 victory over the Denver Nuggets.

Arguably the leading candidate to win the regular season MVP, Westbrook finished the game with an eye-popping stat line of 50 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists – the third time this year he’s posted a triple-double with at least 50 points.

The 28-year-old last week secured his triple-double average for the season, joining Robertson in becoming just the second player in NBA history to have achieved the feat.
