Scott Dixon was left frustrated at a lack of pace despite finishing second at the IndyCars race in Alabama.

The Kiwi took his podium spot behind Penske driver Josepf Newgarden, pushing the American hard in the closing stages of the 90-lap race at Barber Motorsports Park.

Dixon was happy with the result but felt a few changes to his car setup would have made a big difference.

"I saw him late on the last restart and I tried to turn down but the car was so neutral that I just didn't have any rear grip to pull it off,"Dixon said..

"He didn't give me too much room on the exit but kudos to Joseph, he drove a hell of a race.

"But my car was strong in the race, we actually had the speed and had we had clean air on that race I think we would have checked out (won).

The results sees the Kiwi jump to second on the championship standings, just six behind series leader Sebastien Bourdais and one in front of Newgarden.

The drivers head to the heat of Phoenix next week for the Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix.
