Video: Chris Boyd credits Hurricanes resilience in win over Blues

Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd was relieved after his side managed to come-from-behind to secure a narrow 28-24 win over the Blues in Auckland on Saturday night.

It was a back-and-forth contest between the two Kiwi teams, but the visitors prevailed after lock Mark Abbott scored the match winning try late in the match.

Boyd credited his side for staying cool under pressure and ultimately outmuscling the Blues to pick up their sixth win of the season.

"I can't remember the last time we had to come back from being down to win," said Boyd

"We're really chuffed because when we went behind the boys were very calm, very collected and very forward focused about what they needed to do.

"It was a win, and we're delighted with that. The management group have been nervous this week because we know the Blues are full of good players and they had their backs to the wall.

"I thought they were a little unlucky last week against the Highlanders, and we knew it was going to be a hell of a contest and could have gone either way."

The defending super rugby champions are set to be without All Blacks prospect Michael Fatialofa for an extended period after the 24-year old hobbled off the field early in the match with a suspected knee injury.

"It doesn't look good," added Boyd.

"We'll have to wait and see what the medical staff come up with, but he's pretty sore. It's either a kneecap or ligament. Either way it doesn't look great.

"We've already got Sam Lousi dinged in that space, and James Blackwell to come back. We're getting a little thin but we're still OK."

The Hurricanes have a short turnaround for their next match against the Australian conference leading Brumbies in Napier on Friday night.

The Brumbies suffered a shock 19-17 loss to the hands of the under-siege Melbourne Rebels last night and they will be desperate to avenge that loss.

But the Hurricanes coach did not think they would rush back captain Dane Coles for the match who is recovering from a calf injury.

"If I was a betting man I probably don't think he'd play.

"We've got the bye after that, Ricki Riccitelli has been doing a good job and I thought Leni Apisai did really well apart from his first throw in the lineout that wasn't straight.

"Colesy may be back for the Brumbies but I probably doubt it."

The Hurricanes current sit third in the New Zealand conference, three points behind the conference leading Chiefs.
