Video: David Villa scores 'remarkable' goal against Philadelphia Union in MLS

Former Spanish international David Villa has scored a remarkable goal from near midfield during New York City's 2-0 Major League Soccer win over the Philadelphia Union on Friday (Saturday NZT).

Leading 1-0 with the clock winding down, Villa chased the ball as it bounced into the Union half and lobbed it towards the goal, catching keeper Andre Blake off guard as the ball hit the back of the net.

After the match, the 35-year old explained to ESPN that the only reason why he took the shot was because he was 'tired.'

"I was a little tired from running so I tried to score a goal," said Villa, "so I just thought I’d go for it."

Villa is known for his goal scoring abilities.

The star striker owns Spain’s all-time top goal scorer with 59 goals in 97 appearances and has netted over 280 goals at club level.
