New Zealand UFC fighters Mark "Super Samoan" Hunt and Dan "Hangman" Hooker impressed south Auckland fans on Sunday with an open mat workout in Manukau City.
Hunt, originally from south Auckland, took to the stage with striking coach Lolo Heimuli, showing off his striking prowess while also promoting his headline fight at UFC in Auckland on June 11.
"To be honest Derrick Lewis is pretty much like me, so he turned his life from a negative to a positive, been in jail a couple of times, but he's at the top end now like where I am," said Hunt about his opponent.
Despite the common ground, the 43-year-old has a message for Lewis about fighting him in his hometown.
"He's coming down here; this is my neck of the woods and I'm looking forward to sending him back home with a loss."
Hooker was joined on stage by his City MMA teammates, including former The Ultimate Fighter competitor and UFC New Zealand hopeful Kai Kara France.
"Kai Kara France, Shane Young, Rod MacSwain - these guys have earned a spot at UFC. They've got good win streaks; they knock guys out and they deserve a shot at UFC Auckland alongside me as well."
Registrations for UFC tickets are available online tomorrow and tickets officially go on sale on Wednesday starting at $50.
