Danny Lee claims top spot at PGA event in Texas

Kiwi golfer Danny Lee has stormed up the leaderboard at the PGA event in Texas, finishing in a four–way tie for first at the end of the second round on Saturday (NZ time).

Lee shot the best round of the day, a six-under par 64, to share the top spot with Americans Webb Simpson, Kevin Kisner and Scott Piercy with two rounds to play.

The 26-year-old made a strong start to the his day with a birdie on the opening hole before scorching through the back nine, finishing with three consecutive birdies through the final three holes.

Currently ranked 115th in the world, Lee was pleased with his overall form.

"Ball striking was on point today. I wasn't really worrying about hitting one single shot out there. I felt like I can pull off any shot," he said.

"My putting has been getting better ... besides missing a three-footer birdie putt on number two I think everything else was good."

Round three gets underway at approximately 8am on Sunday (NZT).
