While Maria Sharapova is used to answering tough questions, it was one about her personal life that had her lost for words.
The tennis star has returned to the court and media spotlight following a 15 month drug suspension, and she's had to front up to some hard-hitting questionings.
But when a male reporter grilled her love life, it just got plain awkward.
The exchange began when Sharapova answered a question about how she was adjusting back to life as an athlete, during a press conference after her first round win at the Italian Open in Rome.
"I feel like every match or every day I learn a little bit more and things are coming back to me about the way that I feel and the way I get ready for a match and my habits on match days and those things," she said.
"I'm enjoying being back in these cities and waking up in Rome and waking up in Madrid and I'm a happy person."
"Even without a boyfriend?" the journalist questioned.
The reaction of Sharapova and other journalists in the room proved how uncomfortable the situation was, many laughing in disbelief.
"It would be nice," the man added when the tennis star refused to answer, to which she replied: "Is it? It would be nice. Okay, for you. Are you married?"
The Women's Tennis Exchange posted the exchange to Facebook, with many people applauding the athlete's snapback, calling his questioning inappropriate.
