Olympic Gold Medallist Lisa Carrington changes focus to team boats for World Cup series

Olympic kayak Gold Medallist and Supreme Halberg winner Lisa Carrington will skip her favoured K1 200 metre event on the upcoming ICF World Cup series in Europe.

In a surprising move given her success in the event, the 27-year-old will concentrate on the team boats in the K2 and K4 events at the Portugal and Hungary events.

However, she will return to the K1 500 metre division at the Hungary event.

Carrington's absence means prospects Caitlin Ryan and Aimee Fisher will get starts in the individual boats, with Ryan tackling the K1 500m in Portugal and national champion Fisher paddling the K1 200m in Hungary.

Fisher made a World Cup final in the sprint distance in Duisburg, Germany, last year.

The New Zealand team flies out this weekend, heading for a training camp in Portugal before the World Cup starts on May 19.
