Kiwi driver Scott Dixon has finished second in the latest round of the IndyCars series on Indianapolis Motor Speedway's road course.

The 36-year old finished behind Australian Will Power who led for 61 of the 85 laps to claim his 30th career victory.

Ryan Hunter-Reay was third, more than 12 seconds behind Power, while defending champion Simon Pagenaud finished fourth.

The Honda driver was happy with his performance despite his car having issues during the race.

"We kind of knew that in the warm-up and we were hoping maybe with the warmer ambiance we might pick up some understeer," Dixon said.

"The first stint on the reds was extremely tough.

"It was a good day for points. A huge congrats to Will."

"We didn't win the first race at Indy so hopefully we can win the second one in a couple of weeks.

Dixon is currently second in the championship, 10 points behind Pagenaud.
