Team New Zealand suffers setback after new rudder breaks during practice

A broken rudder has caused team New Zealand some headaches during a practice session in Bermuda overnight (NZ time).

The distinct yellow new rudders, part of a recently-signed sponsorship agreement with tyre manufacturer Pirelli, were only added over the past weekend with the NZ syndicate keen to get to grips with them during the five-day official racing window.

However the breakage didn’t cause too much consternation, able to be replaced during a brief pitstop with the boat immediately returning to practice.

America's Cup rules dictate no limit to the number of rudders able to be used.
