Wellington Phoenix unveil new logo for 2017/18 A-League season at waterfront launch

The Wellington Phoenix will carry a brand new logo into their upcoming 2018/19 A-League season.

The franchise unveiled their prized new symbol at their season launch at the Wellington Harbour waterfront in a special ceremony to mark the entrance into their second decade in the competition.

The physical crest itself carries the Maori inscription 'E Rere Te Keo', which translates to 'The Resounding Call' or 'The Rising Call'.

It's an attempt to encapsulate the spirit of the Taniwha and acknowledge the diversity of New Zealand, said the club.

"The club is both celebrating New Zealand’s genuine commitment to biculturalism, but also anchoring itself in a uniquely Wellington story that provides clear guidelines as to the culture and identity of the club moving forward," it said via statement.

General Manager David Dome told The AM Show on Thursday that it's both a recognition of the past and the future.

"We're looking not just forward to the type of football club that we'd like to become, but also reaching backwards; acknowledging the rich history and connection to place of tangata whenua," he said.

Dome also confirmed that they had more signings to be announced following Wednesday's confirmation of new addition, defender Daniel Mullen.

"We've recruited well and we've got more signings to make. We made one yesterday and we have another on the way, a striker. We're building well into the start of the season."
