Hughie Fury claims to have the power to finish WBO champion Joseph Parker early

Talking up their chances ahead of a fight is nothing new for boxers and at a public training session in Manchester this week, Hughie Fury was typically full of bold claims.

The Brit has a shot at claiming the WBO heavyweight title on Sunday morning (NZ time), when he takes on New Zealand's Joseph Parker in his own backyard at Manchester Arena.

While Fury is a skilful fighter, his record suggests he may not have the power to put Parker out for the count.

Fury's knocked out just half of his 20 opponents and his list of victims isn't exactly stacked with household names.

However, the Manchester native believes he has never been in better shape, as he looks to dethrone the Kiwi.

"I'm super confident … I feel so fresh in myself and so full of energy, I've never had that before," Fury told media.

"I can't wait to show the world what I can actually do. I believe I'm going to be the champion."

The 23-year-old is backing himself to not only win, but win well, saying he'll be the first man to knock out the undefeated south Auckland native.

"He's never fought anyone like me before," said Fury. "He's maybe fought people tit-for-tat, but listen, I'm coming for him and I'm going to get him to limits he's never been tested.

"I truly believe that and I don't think he can handle me. I know, truly, he can't."

Parker's trainer, Kevin Barry, said he wouldn't write off any heavyweight's power, but forcefully pointed out that "his fighter" has worn some big shots and hasn't come close to being stopped.

"One thing I can tell you is Joseph Parker has never been hurt in the amateurs, he's never been hurt in hundreds and hundreds of rounds of sparring, and he's never been down in any professional fight.

"He has a very, very good set of whiskers."

With 18 knockouts in 23 fights, Parker has the superior KO ratio and is keen to make it 19 early stoppages this weekend.

"I back my power and I back my chin and I back my speed. I back me being in the ring and giving him KO."

Parker v Fury is available on Sky Arena, 8am, Sunday, September 24.
