All Whites win would be 'disaster' for Peru, says NZ coach Anthony Hudson

All Whites coach Anthony Hudson has put the pressure firmly on his opponents ahead of next month's intercontinental playoff against Peru for a place at next year's FIFA World Cup.

Speaking exclusively to Newshub, Hudson described the prospect of his All Whites - ranked 122 in the world - beating 10th ranked Peru as a "disaster" for the South American nation.

"The reality is the size of New Zealand, the size of Peru, is that if Peru lose to New Zealand it's disaster for Peru." Hudson said.

"The pressure they must be under is gigantic. It's unthinkable to lose to New Zealand over two legs."

The 36-year-old acknowledged the gulf between Peru and the All Whites was "gigantic", in terms of the quality and depth of the squad, and where the players ply their trade in professional leagues.

"This is a serious team and they've had some big results against big teams against big players as well. This is a huge team."

However, the All Whites coach wasn't writing off his team's chances of seeking to claim underdog status for the playoff, which begins with the first leg in Wellington on Saturday November 11.

"It's about delivering the best performance of our campaign. If we're totally committed to that, and we deliver that, then Peru are going to have a difficult time against us."
