Bledisloe Cup 2017: As it happened - Wallabies vs All Blacks

  • 21/10/2017

WALLABIES 23 ALL BLACKS 18

FULLTIME: Sam Cane drops the ball and that's game! All Blacks had great field position but were unable to make it count. Wallabies win a bruising encounter. The All Blacks were the better team in the first-half but were outplayed by a very determined Australina outfit.

79mins: All Blacks win the penalty! Australia tried to see the game out but are penalised and New Zealand have lineout just inside the Wallabies 22.

78mins: PENALTY WALLABIES: Hodge drills it with room to spare! And Australia have a five point lead with just two minutes left.

77mins: SBW has had great game, a great game. But a grubber kick when it really wasn't on and the ABs attack looked promising stalls their attack. And now Australia win the penalty after Tu'ungafasi takes a Wallabies player out. Hodge and his big boot going to have a go from about 53m out.

75mins: Front row collapse for Australia and the All Blacks kick the ball to touch for the lineout just outside the Wallabies 22m.

73mins: We're in for a close finish here in Brisbane. Both sides not letting up and seem keen to throw the ball around.

71mins: TRY ALL BLACKS: Patience the key as New Zealand score through Ioane in the left hand corner. The ball went through the hands and a great offload from SBW has NZ right back in it! McKenzie with the chance to level things up. And the smiling assassin sends it wide! Tough kick. Australia lead 20-18 with just under seven minutes to go.

68mins: Wallabies flanker Sean McMahon makes a break! He fended off three ABs defefenders. A HUGE hit on Foley by Tu'ungafasi saves the All Blacks. We've seen some massive tackles this game, but that was the biggest.

66mins: Naholo wins the penalty for the All Blacks and is taken quickly by replacement TJ Perenara! He puts the quick through as the Wallabies are caught napping but a desperate effort from Koroibete keeps NZ out. Lineout for ABs 10m out.

64mins: PENALTY WALLABIES: Great kick from Hodge! Should be their first choice going forward. Wallabies lead 20-13.

63mins: Penalty count now mounting against the All Blacks. The Wallabies will have a shot at goal with Reece Hodge lining up on the far left hand side just in front of the ABs 40m.

61mins: Codie Taylor and David Havili now on the field with Sopoaga going off. Very interesting move here by Hanson and co. Damian McKenzie will go to first-five.

61mins: ABs now penalised for cleaning out off the ball. Cane the guilty party after Dane Coles could have been pinged for the same thing numerous times leading up to it.

59mins: Every time Folau gets the ball it looks like something is on. Australia playing with real confidence now.

56mins: TRY WALLABIES: Wow, you've got to hand it to them. They win the lineout, make great progress with the maul before sending it out to their main man Folau who makes ground down the left hand side and finds his winger Koroibete who goes over in the corner. Foley misses the kick yet again, but it was tough.

54mins: Wallabies win penalty which is quickly taken by Genia, despite the fact their only down by one and it's right in front. But the ABs are caught off side, and surely they will go for goal now...Oh no, they want the lineout, very interesting this.

52mins: Australia now win the penalty! Tu'ungafasi going down at scrum time. Wallabies go for touch and have a lineout on the ABs 22m.

51mins: The teams are putting down for the scrum after another error. The ABs have the feed just inside their own half.

49mins: Australia win the penalty after Nepo Laulala is deemed the guilty party at the breakdown. Wallabies opting to go for goal about 40m on the left hand side. Foley misses, and misses by a fair bit and ABs retain their lead. Laulala now being replaced by Ofa Tu'ungafasi.

46mins: All the scrums taking its toll onto the Suncorp paddock, with obvious damage being done to the grass. Players struggling to set themselves.

44mins: We're back underway! Australia immediately apply the pressure! Folau causing the ABs defence all sorts of problems. Breaks a few tackles, sends a spectacular ball to his winger Koroibete before play eventually comes to an end after yet another Beale error...

43mins: Replacement lock Lukhan Tui has since come onto the field. Simmons still being looked after by the medical staff. He is now being taken off the field on a stretcher and gives the crowed two thumbs up! Great to see.

43mins: Looks to be the result of tackle where the lock seems to have got his head in an awkward position. Real concern being shown.

42mins: Hooper does brilliantly to force Ioane to hold onto the ball and Australia win the penalty after having to deal with heavy pressure. We have a Wallabies player down. Lock Rob Simmons looks to be in serious trouble. Stretcher is now out...not good at all.

41mins: And an immediate penalty to the All Blacks after winning the ball back from the kick off. Lineout for black inside Wallabies 22m.

41mins: And we're underway for the second half! News is Hames has failed his concussion test and Crockett will stay on as his replacement.

HALFTIME: ALL BLACKS 13 WALLBIES 12: Very interesting half of footy. All Blacks have beent the better team, winning the collisions and making more of their set-piece opportunities. But Australia find themselves only a point behind heading into the sheds. Both teams will want to improve on their ball rentention in the second forty.

39mins: TRY WALLABIES: Phase after phase leads to a try to Israel Folau in the left hand corner. Australia made steady progress through their forwards, before going out wide where three Wallabies players could have scored, but instead Folau goes over. Foley misses the conversion that would have seen them take the lead into the break.

37mins: Errors really mounting now. Beale spills the ball again and the fatties will put down for the umpteenth time. Hames is leaving the field now, with Crockett replacing him. Looks to be the result of a head clash.

35mins: Kane Hames concedes free-kick from the scrum and Australia put the ball high with Naholo subsequently dropping it. We scrum again...

34mins: Ryan Crotty now drops the ball after a set-piece move from an ABs lineout on the Wallabies 22m. Reece Hodge made a great tackle to force the error.

32mins: The All Blacks players really seem to be targeting the ball in the collisions as Australia spill the pill yet again.

30mins: PENALTY ALL BLACKS: Sopoaga nails the penalty from right in front and the ABs lead 13-7. Ioane is also back on the field.

29mins: Barnes deems the Wallabies to have been offside after they had to withstand heavy pressure from the All Blacks. Penalty right in front, Sopoaga will look to add another three.

28mins: A Sam Cane turnover leads to a great touch finder by Damian McKenzie as he pegs the Wallabies back into their own 22m.

26mins: SBW sends Beale down to the ground with a monster hit! This game has had a fair share already, but that may be the best shot of the lot. ABs scrum after the knock on.

26mins: PENALTY ALL BLACKS: Sopoaga hits the cross bar and the ball goes over! He's 9/11 this year.

24mins: Sopoaga will have a shot at goal, about 47m out...

24mins: ABs win the penalty just inside Wallabies half after yet another great tackle by captain Kieran Reid. He's been everywhere so far.

22mins: Ioane is off the field for the time being and David Havili makes his way on. It's a blood bin, so shouldn't be a permanent change.

20mins: The game is being played at a franatic pace. Naholo makes the break down the right hand side before finding Smith who is taken down inside the Wallabies 22m. Australia win the penalty and take the quick tap and Genia is absolutely smashed by Naholo!

19mins: Both teams having trouble finding their rythem as the ball keeps finding its way onto the grass.

17mins: Wallabies guilty of make too many unforced errors as an attempted move off the lineout sees the ball go to ground and leads to eventual penalty to the All Blacks after Genia was deemed to have not rolled away in the tackle.

14mins: TRY ALL BLACKS: Great patience shown by New Zealand as they slowly make their way to the try line. A superb cutout pass from Aaron Smith sees an unmarked Waisake Naholo score in the right hand corner. Sopoaga absolutely nails the conversion. We're all tied up at 7-7.

12mins: All Blacks win the penalty and gain a further 10m after Rob Simmons gave Barnes a bit of lip. A great kick from Sopoaga has the ABs in great position with a lineout on the Wallabies 5m.

9mins: Wallabies playing with confidence now as they work the ball out wide. A very, very long advantage saves Australia as Ioane looked to have been away after pouncing on the loose ball. Crowd not pleased with the call.

7mins: TRY WALLABIES: New Zealand try and be cute by switching direction from the scrum. Instead Wallabies winger Reece Hodge intercepts the ball after a great tackle by Will Genia to race away 80m untouched to score. Foley converts the easy kick.

5mins: A great tackle by Sam Cane forces the knock on from Wallabies eighthman Sean McMachon. ABs scrum on Wallabies 22m.

4mins: Waisake Naholo makes a break off an ABs lineout! The rampaging winger makes ground but is eventually taken down within the Wallabies 22m. Australia turn the ball over and clear.

2mins: A probing kick from Aaron Smith has the Wallabies throwing for the lineout within their own 22 after they dropped a high ball.

1mins: Wallabies blow a real chance out wide as a pass goes to ground leading to an eventual knock-on. A better pass from Foley could have seen Australia score early.

KICKOFF: And we're underway! Fan favourite Wayne Barnes blows his whistle as Bernard Foley kicks deep into the ABs 22m.

10:08pm: One of the highlights of the evening; the Haka! TJ Perenara leading the Kapa o Pango with Read front and centre. Crowd are really into it! Wallabies players form an arrow formation of themselves to match the ABs.

10:07pm: Now for Australia's with the players and fans in attendance in full voice.

10:05pm: Time for the anthems with New Zealand first up after the great welcome.

10:03pm: There is a moment of silence now for those who have worn the yellow jersey who have unfortunately passed this year, including that of Dan Vickerman.

10:02pm: Here come the Wallabies who will be wearing a special jersey in tribute to the indigenous people of the country and the past players.

10:01pm: Kieran Read leads out the All Blacks onto the field as they look to record yet another victory on Australian soil.
