Mitre 10 Cup Premiership final: As it happened - Canterbury v Tasman

CANTERBURY 35  TASMAN 13

Full time: And that's the game - Canterbury’s dominance of provincial rugby continues…as an Aucklander I have nothing but respect…and envy..for what this province keeps achieving…remarkable. Great game of footy. Tasman were game..but Canterbury was all-class and just too good tonight. Thanks for joining me!!

79mins: Will Jordan – who has also been very good slices through the Cantabs defence…Hunt with the cross kick to the opposite wing but it floats out on the full..Scrum Canterbury 10m out from their own line.

78mins: Mo’unga has been sensational…a class above the rest..aside from a few moments from James Lowe…Mo’unga is a superstar in the making.

75mins: TRY CANTERBURY - Jack Stratton: Mo’unga bounces and skips through four or five would-be tacklers…2 phases later and Stratton crashes over. Mo’unga adds the extras and his 25-points is now a finals record at ‘NPC’ level.

74mins: Game is getting a bit scrappy as the result is now all but sealed. Tasman give away a couple back to back penalties and Canterbury have a lineout on the Tasman 22.

69mins: A few players sucking in the big ones as we have another "injury" break. When we resume Canterbury will have a defensive scrum 15m out.

65mins: PENALTY GOAL CANTERBURY: Mo'unga nails it and the lead is now 16-points..Mo'unga equals the record set by Tom Taylor in 2012 for most points in a final.

64mins: Tasman held out but it will result in three-points for the homeside. Offside at the ruck on phase 32!..36 in total. Mo'unga from in front.

63mins: Resolute defence from the Makos as the Cantabs just smash the ball forward. 5m out through 26 phases!

60mins: Tasman piling on the pressure but are facing a Red and Black wall at the moment..Canterbury turn the ball over and Ennor makes 20m with a nice run. Cantabs rolling back up-field.

57mins: PENALTY GOAL CANTERBURY: Mo'unga makes no mistake and you would feel they will be hard to catch from here.

56mins: Late tackle by Nakivell on Braydon Ennor and the Cantabs will have another shot at extending the lead from in front.

53mins: Jordan and Lowe combine down the left hand side and Tasman are threatening here…it swings right but great covering defence from Bridge causes a knock on by Tomas Aokae..Defensice scrum for Canterbury.

51mins: Another lovely clearence from Mo'unga and we restart play with a Tasman lineout on halfway.

50mins: A promising position for the Makos is blown....Coxon knocks it on 10m out and the Cantabs get a defensive scrum.

49mins: The very impressive Will Jordan sneaks through the Canterbury defence..offloads to Frefericks who is tackled well by Tom Sanders but he doesn’t  roll away and Tasman get another crack..this time from 15m out with the lineout.

47mins: Penalty Tasman..a relieving one as Prinsep is pinged for not rolling away. Hunt clears well…Lineout for Tasman 40m out.

45mins: A game of force back is won by Canterbury..or I should say Richie Mo'unga..magnificent kick from inside his 22 finds touch right on the Tasman 22. Lineout Tasman.

44mins: PENALTY GOAL CANTERBURY - Mo'unga nails it from in front and the Cantabs extend their handy lead.

43mins: Injury break...Tasman prop Tony Hill is done for the night..young Ryan Coxan gets the call up. Mo'unga will have a shot here as Canterbury were playing under advantage.

42mins: Early penalty for the Cantabs. Prinsep earns the ref’s whistle with great work at the breakdown..got over the ball nicely and Mo’unga clears to within 24m of the Tasman line. Here comes the Red and Blacks.

Second half: Mike Fraser says 'lets play' and Mitchell Hunt gets us back underway for the final 40mins of the Mitre 10 Cup season.

Halftime: Canterbury 19 - Tasman 13

39mins: Try Canterbury: Tim Bateman - And that is so Canterbury..great pressure from the homeside…get within 5m of the Tasman line..Bateman runs a great angle off a Drummond pass and crashes over.Mo’unga adds the two and the Cantabs regain the lead right on halftime.

36mins: Knocked on in midfield by Tomas Aoake...Canterbury look to settle and earn a penalty. Mo'unga clears but it's not out and Tasman look to run it back..eventually Aumua is bundled over the sideline on halfway.

35mins: Back and forth play here…bit of force back..Lowe takes a high ball nicely then carves off 40m on the kick..ball knocked on by George Bridge and the Makos have another attacking scrum.

32mins: PENALTY GOAL TASMAN - Hunt makes no mistake and the Makos are back in front with 8m to play in the first half.

31mins: Penalty for the visitors in front..30m out. Alex Hodgman infringing at the breakdown.Hunt will have a shot.

29mins: Mistake off a high kick from Josh McKay and Tasman have an attacking lineout 25m out…lost the ball in the sun I think there..although the wind has picked up a bit.

27mins: Injury break..Canterbury's Billy Harmon looks done for the night and is replaced by Reed Prinsep.

26mins: TRY CANTERBURY: Richie Mo'unga - Mo’unga shows his brilliance..ghosts through a broken defensive line and scores under the post..wonderful from the young pivot. Adds the extras from in front.

23mins: The homeside win a turnover inside their own 22 and clear nicely..James Lowe replies with a punt that goes right down George Bridge’s throat,..Thompson with the break..here go the Cantabs….Ennor with a chance but a brilliant try saving tackle from James Lowe..Phew! that was great play!

21mins: Mistake from Bird at the kickoff and Tasman have an attacking scrum 35m out.

19mins: TRY CANTERBURY - Richie Mo'unga -  Brilliant lineout drive gets the Crusaders super close..comes out to Mo’unga who beats Finlay Christie and scores about 10m in from the left hand touch line..he can’t add the extras but the Cantabs are on the board.

18mins: Great work at the breakdown by Tom Saunders for the Cantabs and Mo'unga's touch finder is a beauty...10m out and hot on attack the homeside.

17mins: Tasman attacking with real flare – James Lowe in the thick of the action…making metres with consummate ease but a mistake by Nankivell relieves the pressure..superb tackle by flanker Billy Harmon.

15mins: PENALTY GOAL TASMAN - Hunt guides it nicely through the posts and it’s a great early lead for Tasman.

14mins: Canterbury flying up in defence as the Makos attack with intent.playing under advantage and we will have a shot at goal here for Hunt..right in front.

11mins: Tasman earn a midfield penalty..great work by Ethan Blackadder (Son of) at the breakdown..lineout 20m out for the visitors.

6mins: Great scrum by the Red and Blacks but Mo’unga in pinged for offsiide and Tasman clear to halfway with the penalty.

4mins: Tasman looking to kick first early. Canterbury the opposite…nice phase play by the Cantabs but Drummond with a little knock on on the 5th phase and Tasman have a defensive scrum..25m out from their try-line
