Warriors sign NRL veteran coach Brian Smith as their general manager

The Warriors have signed veteran NRL coach Brian Smith as their general manager.

The rugby league club confirmed the coup on Friday at Mount Smart Stadium and will confimed he will be joining the team permanently in the next couple of weeks.

Smith has amassed over 30 years of rugby league knowledge, having coached 601 games in the NRL, which is only bested by Wayne Bennett and Tim Sheens.

He most recently served as the Kiwis technical advisor this year, having last worked with an NRL club in 2012, where he coached the Sydney Roosters for two years.

The Warriors' newest addition had previously led Parramatta to a minor premiership and grand final appearance in 2001.

Smith last held a top-level coaching job with Wakefield in the English Super League 2016, where he had previously made the move up north following his stint with Sydney.

He also boasts experience as a player, amassing 31 first-grade games through a six year career.
