Caroline Wozniacki confident of maiden ASB Classic title

Top seed and world number three Caroline Wozniacki has touched down in Auckland ahead of her star turn at next week's ASB Tennis Classic.

The Dane flew in from Los Angeles for the tournament - her fifth appearance, having previously participating in 2009, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The 27-year-old is excited about the chance to break her duck in New Zealand, after a stunning rise up the rankings this year.

"Obviously, I've never won the tournament before, so it will be great to do that this year," she said.

"I love starting my year here, so it's great to be back and hopefully it's going to be a good week for me."

The closest Wozniacki has come to winning the Auckland title was in 2015, when she lost to Venus Williams in a thrilling three-set final.

If she can win the ASB Classic and add to her 27 career titles, she could jump to the world's top ranking for the first time since 2012.

To achieve that, she must win in Auckland, and hope Romanian Simona Halep (No.1) and Spaniard Garbiñe Muguruza (No.2) lose in Shenzhen and Brisbane respectively next week.

But Wozniacki claims that is the last thing on her mind.

"Honestly, I haven't really thought about it too much. I've been trying to prepare the best I can and try to win this tournament, and we'll see what happens afterwards."

The ASB Classic gets underway on January 1.
