Phil Taylor’s quest of winning his 17th and final World Championships remains alive after beating Gary Anderson 5-3 on Saturday morning (NZ time).

Taylor averaged 102.02 against the Scot who has been struggling with a back injury throughout the tournament.

"The Power" led front start to finish, holding off a late fight back from Anderson who at one stage trailed 4-1 in the match.

Awaiting the 57-year-old is Welshman Jamie Lewis who continues his dream run at the Ally Pally.

Taylor is hanging up the darts at the conclusion of the tournament, ending an illustrious career which has seen him won 16 world titles and four world cups with England.

Meanwhile, Michael Van Gerwen’s quest to defend his world title is also on track after beating fellow Dutchman Raymond Van Barneveld 5-4 in a thriller.

Meeting his compatriot on the Alexandra Palace oche for the third straight year, Van Gerwen was far from his best but still averaged 103.10 through the contest, which included 18 breaks of throw.

Van Barneveld had numerous opportunities to punish the two-time champion but missed 28 darts at double at crucial times.

Van Gerwen will advance to face Rob Cross for a spot in the final after he beat world youth champion Dimitri Van den Bergh 5-4.

Cross raced out to a 4-1 lead but the Belgium star fought back to set up a final leg decider, where the Englishman closed out the match despite his average being slightly lower that his opponents.

In the fourth quarter-final clash, Jamie Lewis crushed Darren Webster, landing 14 maximums to average 101 - ten points more than Webster.
