All Whites striker Chris Wood will miss Burnley's crucial FA Cup clash against Manchester City on Sunday (NZ time), manager Sean Dyche has confirmed.

Wood picked up a leg injury during Burnley's 3-0 loss to Tottenham late last month and has not played since.

The Clarets are coming off the back of a run of four league games in 10 days during the Christmas period, including two in three days over the New Year weekend, and even though having Wood back would be valuable, Dyche said he doesn't want to rush his star striker.

"He is settling down, but not for this weekend," Dyche said at a press conference.

"We can't continually risk players and the more fatigue players do get, that increases the risk of these minor injuries."

Wood is in his first year with Burnley, having signed a four-year contract with the club in August for an undisclosed club record fee. He has played 16 games for the Clarets, scoring five goals in the process.
