The New Zealand Breakers are downplaying speculation that they have signed American forward Rakeem Christmas as the club's third import.

Several overseas basketball websites are reporting that the 27-year-old former NBA player will join the Auckland NBL club from the Turkish BSL league.

But a Breakers spokesperson told Newshub the club has no comment regarding speculation on the roster.

Each NBL team is allowed three import players, and the Breakers currently have two in guards DJ Newbill and Edgar Sosa.

Christmas last played for Turkish side Galatasaray, but parted ways with the club in November.

The 2.06m forward previously played 30 NBA games for the Indiana Pacers and was drafted three years ago by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Breakers are currently third on the NBL ladder with an 11-6 record, and they host rivals the Cairns Taipans at Spark Arena on Sunday afternoon.
