Parker vs Joshua: Brit warned 'he's in for a surprise'

Joseph Parker isn't impressed Anthony Joshua's camp appears to already be looking towards the future, despite their upcoming bout against the Kiwi.

The 26-year-old Parker will face Joshua in a unification bout for the Kiwi's WBO title, and the Brit's IBF and WBA crowns at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on April 1 (NZ time).

Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn stated at a press conference earlier in the week that the 28-year-old's camp is in discussions to organise a fight in the United States against Jarrell Miller in August.

Even though Hearn said they weren't looking past the WBO champion, Parker thinks otherwise.

"I think they might be looking past me, but it's part of [Hearn's] job to look at future fights," Parker told ESPN.

"But it might be too early to start looking, as there is still a fight in front of them."

However, Parker says despite reports that Joshua is already looking at future opponents, he's convinced he's being taken seriously.

"They see this as a great fight that can go either way. I am the underdog. People think that he will blast me out in a few rounds, but I think it will be a lot better fight than people think it will be.

"My focus is myself and my training. If they are looking past me, they will be in for a surprise."

Parker has been preparing for the fight in Las Vegas alongside trainer Kevin Barry and has been taking part in three training sessions every day.

On Thursday, Parker uploaded a video to social media of him sparring with Barry in the ring, and he says he's pleased with how training is coming along ahead of the highly anticipated fight.

"Training is going great. Every day of training we're getting good work in. I'm lean, feeling sharp, feeling strong, and training is going wonderful," he explained.

"We've added a few things which we feel will benefit us for this camp and how we feel come fight time.

"So I think this camp is a lot better than any other camp we've had before."
