Parker vs Joshua: Pay per view price set for unification title fight

  • 16/02/2018

The New Zealand pay-per-view price has been set for the upcoming unification heavyweight fight between Joseph Parker and Anthony Joshua.

Customers will have to fork out $49.99 for the bout - which is $10 cheaper than the price for Parker's fight against Andy Ruiz Jr in 2016.

The 26-year-old Parker will face Joshua in Cardiff in a unification bout for Parker's WBO title, and the Brit's IBF and WBA crowns on April 1 (NZT).

"It's about elasticity of demand," Duco boss David Higgins told NZME.

"Sometimes you can make more by setting the price a bit cheaper. It's all about finding the right spot. We have copped criticism in the past, I think unfairly because people don't know what's going on behind the scenes.

"Sometimes we're making losses or no money at all. Those people who are buying the pay-per-view are effectively funding Joe's journey. They've made a contribution. The others are haters who will flog you no matter what.

"Instinctively we think that's the right price point for this event. And we want to be inclusive, we'd like as many New Zealanders as possible to tune in for what could be a memorable day in history."

With the fight set to be one of the biggest in boxing history, Higgins is hopeful of breaking the New Zealand record for the biggest pay per view audience - however, he is cautious of illegal streamers.

The record for the biggest pay per view in New Zealand was the 2009 clash between  David Tua and Shane Cameron.
