Kiwi shotputter Jacko Gill's Commonwealth Games quest is over, with Athletics New Zealand confirming the 22-year-old won't be a late addition to the squad.
Gill, who spent December in hospital with Myocarditis, a swelling of the heart muscle, had hoped to be cleared by doctors earlier this month.
However a planned scan on March 6 never materialised, and time has run out for the Aucklander.
Athletics New Zealand's high performance director, Scott Goodman was unclear as to why Gill's planned visit with his specialist didn't take place.
"I'm not sure what that's about," Goodman told Newshub. "It's out of my control and I have no idea really."
Gill's scan has been delayed until March 29 - and if all is clear, Goodman believes Gill should return to competitive throwing by July.
"He will have an MRI of his heart, and then they will give him the okay to return to physical activity," Goodman said.
"My understanding the advice may be for a gradual return, hence it will take a couple of months to get back to full training.
"They won't want to take risks with this sort of thing."
The Commonwealth Games begin on April 4.
