Dame Valerie Adams escapes television live-cross fall with typical Kiwi class

Dame Valerie Adams is arguably one of New Zealand's greatest Olympians.

The 33-year-old is also capable of laughing at herself and that's exactly what happened during a live cross into Newshub's sports bulletin on Friday night.

Dame Valerie was discussing her shotput form during the Big Shot event in Christchurch, where she finished second to Canadian Brittany Crew.

As reporter David Di Somma was signing off, Adams tried to subtly sneak out of camera shot, only to slip and fall.

Adams quickly recovered, however, and leapt to her feet, sharing a laugh with fellow Olympic medallist Tom Walsh.

As for her chances in the Gold Coast, the double Olympic champion is confident her best form will come.

"I threw over 18 metres, which was good," Adams told Newshub.

"I just need to keep competing to get it all together for it to come out in competition.

"We knew the challenge 2-3 months ago. We still have time until we get to the Commonwealth Games in four weeks' time."
